Our Story

Awake for Women and Children’s Empowerment, or AWACE, is a non-governmental organization founded in South Sudan in 2017. The idea for AWACE came as a dream to South Sudanese founder Rhoda Yar Bol. She dreamed of the suffering of women and children in her homeland, and dreamed that she could be a part of addressing the root causes of poverty and help build a stronger South Sudan with them. Since then AWACE has impacted the lives of thousands of women and girls in or displaced from South Sudan through its work to build physically and psychologically healed communities, educate and empower girls to know and exercise their rights, and equip strong women with the tools they need to replace cycles of poverty with cycles of flourishing.

Our Vision

It is our mission to promote the welfare of vulnerable women and girls in the conflict-prone areas of the Republic of South Sudan. We want to see South Sudanese women and children emancipated from socioeconomic vulnerability through healing, education, and training so that they can create and join the systems of kindness, justice, and mercy that God desires for them.
